BATH COFFEE FESTIVAL

If you like coffee as much as I do and you're looking for something fun to do in May this year, why not visit the UK's first ever coffee festival, held in Bath on 15th/16th May.

Day 100

Well - this is it, Day 100! It's going to be a hard habit to break, every morning for the last 100 days it's been - drink a pot of coffee, draw a pot of coffee - now what will I do? Have to credit my Dad for the idea for today's pic, I had a couple of thoughts for the last one but this was the best.
Thanks to Josie Long for thinking up the project, it's been brilliant fun and I have learnt a lot of new techniques which is what I set out to do. I'll really miss looking at everyone else's pics and reading haikus and love stories and looking at photos of gloves etc. Good luck everyone!
I think I need a new project ......

Day 99

Can't believe it's day 99 - sad! Over the course of the last 100 days on this blog I've done a few coffee related polls. Here in a nice pie chart are the results! Mmm coffee and pie .....

Day 98

I've been doing a lot of research recently on heraldry for a job I'm doing, fascinating stuff. So here is my coffee coat-of-arms

Sunday, March 7, 2010

Day 97

Really excited to be in the paper today
http://bit.ly/c2CUYW
When I was running out of ideas about mid-way through the project and my family came up with a lot of bad puns (sorry - brilliant plays-on-words!) for me to draw my Grandad came up with 'coffee mourning (morning)' I thought funereal coffee pots were a bit macabre so I went for the day-of-the-dead shrine instead!

Day 96

How I feel some mornings!!

Friday, March 5, 2010

Day 95

So, for the final few days we've been asked to push our projects a bit further. I've pushed my coffee pot to the starry heights of .... the starry heights.
If your sign is Coffeepottius:
This morning you will enjoy an uplifting feeling from the daily grind. The current celestial climate is urging you to take a break. Whilst Beanus is retrograde you may feel as if something is brewing, just relax, the sky is insisting something refreshing will happen if you take the plunge.

Day 94

Whenever I find myself in an arty shop I always want to buy those little fancy bits of paper for scrap-booking. I've never done any scrap-booking and don't really intend to but I just can't resist those little bits of paper. So at least I've got some use out of them now!

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

Day 93

One of my aims with this project was to force myself to use all the scary bits in my art software. I'd tried the dreaded 3d revolve thing before with odd and unexpected results so I thought I'd have another go. My thoughts had turned to chocolate (as they do - fairly regularly!) and I thought I'd make a chocolate easter coffee pot. About as useful as a chocolate teapot!!

Tuesday, March 2, 2010

Day 92

Yesterday was the Indian festival of Holi which is a celebration of the end of winter and involves people throwing coloured powder at each other. It was also St Davids day and the sun even deigned to make an appearance! This got me thinking about spring festivals and was doing a bit of research and ..... excitement....there is an actual coffee festival .... this year ..... in Bath. I live in Bath ..... and you KNOW I like coffee. Whooop !!!

Day 91

10.......9........8........

Sunday, February 28, 2010

Day 90

I've got a notebook by my bed where I write down stuff I remember in the night, usually shopping lists, bills to pay, the occassional creative idea. I was looking through it and a few pages back I had written - 'coffee pot elvis'. Can't remember doing that, I think it was a message from 'the other side' !!

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Day 89

Another book cover today. This one inspired by my husbands indecipherable and mind-numbing programming books which lie around the house looking smug.

Friday, February 26, 2010

Day 88

Picked a random book off the shelf for inspiration for this one - it was 'Andrew's Essential Guide to Beginners Golf'

Thursday, February 25, 2010

Day 87

Doing a little bit of coffee research for inspiration I discovered the 'bean belt'. Felt like I was back in school.

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Day 86

A kind of Art Deco poster

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Day 85

I used to LOVE Super Mario ... this is a slightly modified version!

Monday, February 22, 2010

Day 84

Dreaming of summer holidays and sitting outside with a cold beer watching the world go by! mmmmm :)

Sunday, February 21, 2010

Day 83

I know it's not plagiarism week anymore but when it was I was so impressed with NickD's video charcoal drawings I thought I'd copy! I didn't manage to get it finished then, but it fits in nicely now with the theme this weekend. Drawn using Corel Painter (so I don't get mucky fingertips!) - not a patch on Nick's beautiful drawings.
(With big thanks to hubby for his technical know-how!!)

Day 82

I have no idea whether this is going to work or not! I know it's good to keep your brain active and all that, but after this my brain is going into meltdown! So...the challenge was an animation. I'm up for the challenge, but I don't have any animation software. No problem, I find some free to download. That's all ok and I set to learning how to use it. 2 hours later (and yes...there are other things I should be doing!!) I have made a little animation .... great.... except then I realise that this particular software can't export them! grrrr. Anyway, I have something on my pewter that will record what I'm doing so I had to set that up and then play the animation in the programme and record it. So I don't care if it's rubbish....this is the result of about 4 hours of frustration......I'm going for a nap now!!!!

Friday, February 19, 2010

Day 81

Trying out some new cartoony techniques in illustrator today. Just a quick scribble .... busy day ahead...which is why I'm blogging at 5am!

Thursday, February 18, 2010

Day 80

Looking around for things to plagiarise last week I thought I’d try some ‘paper engineering’ à la hundred dayer Emma J. Lannie (http://garglingwithvimto.blogspot.com)
and that train of thought carried on to doing this
shadow picture (is it called a shadow if it’s made
from light....I don’t know).
I had a couple of ‘doh!’
moments when I realised I couldn’t put the camera
between the light and the stencil and if I used the flash....no shadow!
Anyway, it worked in the end. And yes I know magnolia woodchip is not fashionable anymore but I couldn’t think of a way to photoshop it out!

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Day 79

Sadly can't get to the Hundred Day meet up, but will wear a hat today in solidarity ...as will coffee pot, if he can decide which one! Hope you all have fun xx

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Day 78

Daydreaming about being rich and having a garden designer make me a garden with a pool and a coffee pot shaped herb garden!

Monday, February 15, 2010

Day 77

Today I am plagiarising a non-hundred dayer - these are Picasso's Demoiselles d'Avignon enjoying a cup of coffee after having their baths.

Sunday, February 14, 2010

Day 76

Today I am paying homage to Ann Danylkiw's 'Positive Penguin' 100 day project. http://positivepenguin.posterous.com/
This is my coffee pot mutated into a 'positive penguin'. He's not very original with his homilies but this is plagiarism week!

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Day 75

Today, inspired by Edward Ross's hundred tiny moments http://www.100tinymoments.blogspot.com/ here are some tiny morning coffee moments

Friday, February 12, 2010

Day 74

One of my favourite 100day projects is James Clayton's 'One Hundred Mythical Creatures in Haiku' which is brilliant. http://hundredmythologyhaiku.blogspot.com All I know about mythical creatures is what I learned from watching 'Charmed' (and of course reading Mr Clayton's blog!) so I looked up 'Mythical Coffee Monster' and discovered that apparantly the creature on the Starbuck's logo is a 'Melusine' Don't know why?

I am a day behind with posting. Who knew plagiarism was so complicated. Spent AGES yesterday trying to do something someone else had done. Roped in my long-suffering, very patient husband to help me with the technicals. Faffed and fiddled, but didn't get it finished. So I will have to post Day 73 when I get it worked out.

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

Day 72

So...it's 'plagiarism week' - hmmmm.... had to play catch-up today with having been away and that was a hard one. There seem to be a few 'hundred-dayers' doing poetry and one I look at every now and again is TaunaLen's http://timelesslyricalephemera.blogspot.com/
I have absolutely NO ability when it comes to creative writing and poetry especially to me is a mystical art practised by very clever people and wizards. I didn't even really know what a haiku was, I had to wiki it. So at the same time I learnt about 'haiga' - the illustrations that sometimes go with them which is more up my street.

Anyway, in the spirit of 'homage week' I have tried a haiku. Please don't laugh.

dark morning kitchen
Mr. coffee pot waits for me
to boil the kettle

Day 71

So, I'm back from muriel painting! This may be a bit of a cheat but as the last couple of days has been full of creative challenge and coffee has been needed to fuel it, here is Oliver's completed, oceanified room and .....introducing.....my brother's coffee pot

Monday, February 8, 2010

Day 70

Been reading 'The Man Who Fell to Earth' (which is brilliant) - I'm not usually into sci-fi stuff but it got me thinking about aliens, then I thought about coffee........

Won't be posting for a couple of days...I've got a job to do for a big, important client (i.e. I am going up to paint a fish muriel on my nephew's bedroom wall ... what do you mean 'don't call me Muriel?') but i will be doing my 100days and will post when I get back.

Sunday, February 7, 2010

Day 69

I've always really liked fruit and veg crates (the wooden ones) even though I know some of them have deadly spiders inside.

Saturday, February 6, 2010

Day 68

Fellow hundred dayer Ryan Millar suggested the idea of a book cover. I might do a few of these...textbook, trashy chicklit, sci -fi ....anyway, today's is 'modern, over-hyped, probably-slightly-boring classic' (My days of working in a book shop serve me well here!)

Friday, February 5, 2010

Day 67

Today's picture in the style of Matt the Telegraph cartoonist, suggested by Richard, my brother.

p.s. I've got a daily coffee consumption poll going, have a look down there on the right and let me know 'how much do you drink?'

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Day 66

My family love puns.....i mean they really love puns. So when I mentioned i was running out of coffee pot ideas this is the sort of thing they come up with!
Today is 'The Expresso Train'....thanks Gran! Grandad, I'm working on your 'coffee mourning'

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

Day 65

A sort of lego coffee pot

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Day 64

So ... the 100 day subject is Maths. I got that horrible sinking feeling when i read that like i used to just before double maths in school! Never my favourite subject!
Anyway I found a tutorial on making pictures out of numbers and had a go. I probably could have fiddled around with it a lot more but i had one of those 'life's too short' moments.

Monday, February 1, 2010

Day 63

In days of old, when knights were bold, and coffee pots weren't invented...someone had to come up with the idea.

Sunday, January 31, 2010

Day 62

'What' you may ask 'does this picture have to do with coffee pots?'....well....doing something else in Adobe illustrator I had cause to visit one of the areas i pretend doesn't exist as i have no idea how it works or what it does...the 3d extrude and bevel malarkey. So this is my revolved and wireframed coffee pot which looked to me like an old fashioned bird cage. I still don't know how all that 3d stuff works but at least I was brave and clicked on the unknown!!

Saturday, January 30, 2010

Day 61

I am getting so desperate for new ideas that I am now taking requests! Thanks for today's, Mum!

Friday, January 29, 2010

Day 60

Finding myself a bit strapped for time at the moment so the coffee pots are quickies. Playing around in illustrator this time.

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Day 59

some stylish vector people having coffee

Wednesday, January 27, 2010

Day 58

Bit lacking in creative energy this morning so i just had a play in photoshop. This is Cupid on his coffee break.

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Day 57

Still with the love theme and trying out a different style, here is a romantic breakfast-in-bed picture done in a kind of retro 70s style.

Monday, January 25, 2010

day 56

My link to the 'love' theme today is Robbie Burns! He wrote some romantic poetry. I looked him up and to be honest he looks like a bit of a sap (in my opinion) so I have made my coffeepot into a totally cliched bagpipe-playing, ginger, sporran toting, kilt wearing Scots thing with a flock of wild haggis flying past. But I will recite my favourite poem in honour of Burns night....
'There was a man from Huddersfield,
He had a cow that wouldn't yield.
The reason that it wouldn't yield...
It didn't like it's udders feeled'

Sunday, January 24, 2010

Day 55

joining in with the love theme .. i'd like to introduce...Mr and Mrs coffeepot

Saturday, January 23, 2010

Day 54

I sometimes do illustrations for children's book author Diane Dickson, including the lovely series of stories about the adventures of Bert the fox. So with permission from the author, Bert and his friend Sid the ox have been let out for the day to have a cup of coffee in the park!

Friday, January 22, 2010

Day 53

After reading the discussion on the 100 day facebook page about a 'mid-project crisis' I realised I (probably) won't be drawing coffee pots for ever! With that in mind i started to think about the potential inspiration that would be missed later on in the year.....e.g.......hallowe'en coffeepot (and birthday coffeepot, summer holiday coffeepot, bonfire night coffeepot, easter coffeepot....) Guess which one this is!

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Day 52

coffee pot as Madonna circa 1984

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Day 51

The ideas may start to become a little bit tenuous now as I scrape around in the barrel bottom of my brain! This is my coffee pot as a lighthouse, just because I wanted to draw a lighthouse picture (lighthouses are one of my favourite things)

Tuesday, January 19, 2010

Day 50

HALFWAY POINT!!

Amazed to be at day 50 of the 100day project! Only the same to do again!! I have definately learnt things I wouldn't have done otherwise doing this, so hopefully I'm already half the better person I'll be by the end!!

For day 50 here are my instructions for making the perfect cup of coffee.

Monday, January 18, 2010

Day 49

Apparantly today is the most depressing day of the year! So here is a cheery-uppy cuddly furry coffee pot :)

Sunday, January 17, 2010

Day 48

Todays pic is dedicated to my lovely nephews Oliver and Charlie. I bet you didn't know coffee pots can be like transformers!!
